Fall asleep to the sound of rain

Plenty of people sleep better on a rainy night. The rain in migg is the steady kind, falling against a window. It never gets loud and it never lets up; it keeps the same pace until morning.

Why people reach for rain at bedtime

Rain is an even wash of sound, from low rumble to high hiss, and it barely changes from one minute to the next. Nothing jumps out and there is no tune to follow, so it is easy to stop paying attention to it.

It also softens other noise. Traffic outside or a housemate down the hall fades into it. And on nights when the room is so quiet that all you can hear is your own thinking, rain gives you something else to listen to. Everyone hears it a little differently, so adjust the volume until it suits you.

How to use rain sounds for sleep

Keep it quiet: lower than a conversation, only just there. Put your phone a little way from the pillow and turn the screen face down or dim it.

A sound that cuts out in the middle of the night can wake you. In migg the rain loops until morning, so if you do stir, the same sound is still playing. If you would rather it stopped, set a sleep timer.

The rainy rooms in migg

In migg you step into a rainy room instead of playing a rain track. There is a high-rise apartment in Tokyo, a glass house in the Karuizawa woods and the back of a van in an Oregon forest. Each one pairs the sound with a picture of the place, which makes it much easier to feel like you are there.

Questions about rain sounds

Can I leave the rain playing all night?

Yes. In the app it loops until morning, or you can set a sleep timer. The preview on this page stops after 30 seconds.

Do I need headphones?

No. Your phone's speaker at low volume is enough. Sleeping in earbuds can be hard on your ears, so we'd suggest the speaker.

Can I hear rain and a fire together?

Yes. Cabin Fireplace and Glass House, Rain both mix rain with a crackling fire.
